Spanish

Spanish is taught to all classes Kindergarten and older.  We use Rosetta Stone as our curriculum which enables children to immerse themselves into the language while progressing at their own pace.  Students learn the same way they learn their native language - by hearing it and associating the words they hear with images they know.  We also use "Passaporte al Espanol" (BJU) to supplement classroom time activities.  Spanish is taught by Mrs. Jess Beamond.

Art

The core curriculum of Art class is Disciplined Based Art Education (DBAE) and provides regular instruction in art that leads to knowledge about art, understanding of its production, and appreciation of the aesthetic properties of art and other objects.  Basic standards for Art include an understanding of and ability to apply media, techniques, and processes related to the visual arts; knowing how to use the structures and functions of art; knowing a range of subject matter, symbols, and potential ideas in the visual arts; understanding the visual arts in relation to history and cultures; and understanding the characteristics and merits of one's own artwork and the artwork of others.  Art is taught by Mrs. Jess Beamond.

Music

Music begins in Preschool and Kindergarten Readiness where the students learn to recognize rhythm, dynamics, and tempo by listening to a variety of musical styles from children's songs to classical music, by singing, and by using various rhythm instruments.  As students progress through the elementary grades, they will grow in their understanding of the basic music concepts already learned and reinforce their knowledge of the elements of music.  The core curriculum in this subject is "Music for Christian Schools" from BJU Press.  All students participate in three major music programs throughout the school year (a Christmas program, a patriotic program in mid-winter, and a spring program).  Music is taught by Mrs. Gayle Ferderer.

Life Skills

Life Skills is a course taught in short units to our oldest elementary students.  Some of the units taught include Home Economics topics, Woodworking, Photography, Graphic Design, Community Service, Animal Husbandry, Gardening, and Performing Arts among others.  The purpose of this course is to give them a well-rounded (though not all encompassing) taste of some subjects that might help them find areas of interest or possibly even choose a career path.  Life Skills is taught by Mrs. Gayle Ferderer.

Physical Education

Our goal in Physical Education is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to participate in a variety of sports and other physical activities,  We also desire to instill in them the attitude that being physically active is fun, it helps you feel good, and is a great way to take care of our bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit.  Phy. Ed. is taught by Mrs. Jess Beamond and Mrs. Gayle Ferderer.

Bible Quiz

Bible Quiz is a fun way of encouraging the students to study God's Word, learning both facts and verses to strengthen their personal walk with the Lord.  All students in Kindergarten through elementary work on memorizing assigned sets of questions and answers.  The students are broken down into teams for the year and the teams meet twice a week to compete.  The students are asked a question spelling-bee-style and, if they can answer the question correctly, they earn a point for themselves and for their team.  At the end of the school year, we have a "Quiz Off" allowing all the students to come together and quiz individually (not as teams) to use what they have learned throughout the year.
